Optimizing Energy Stability While Cutting Operational Costs

Saltcor forms part of Donald Brown Group of Companies, a family run business with the mission to produce “salt with a heart”. To them this means caring for the environment, supporting communities and enriching the economy for the long-term sustainability of all. This immediately gave Saltcor and 2Zero50 the same mission: finding a way to reduce carbon emissions.

Saltcor approached 2Zero50 with two primary challenges: 1) Energy stability—the existing 200kW inverter could only generate power when the grid was operational, leaving them vulnerable during loadshedding or power outages. 2) High operational costs—a significant portion of their monthly electricity bill was driven by demand charges.

In response, we designed a tailored solution that reduced their demand charge from 310kVA to 170kVA. Additionally, with their new solar system, Saltcor can now generate electricity, even when the grid is down. We installed a 630kWh battery system with a maximum power output of 750kW, and 624 solar panels capable of delivering up to 360kWp.

This solution not only addressed Saltcor’s energy stability and cost challenges but also aligned with their commitment to sustainability, providing them with a reliable and cost-efficient energy solution.
