Improving our ecosystem and saving on electricity costs

Loch Maree, a salt pan part of the Donald Brown Group of Companies located outside of Upington, shares a common vision with 2Zero50: to protect the environment and improve our ecosystem by using what nature is providing us. Their goal in incorporating solar energy was to minimise reliance on Eskom electricity, storing energy in their battery system for overnight use. A key focus was to eliminate Eskom usage during peak hours, or “red times”, between 6am–9am and 6pm–8pm, when electricity costs are highest.

We installed a 250kW hybrid inverter, a 257kW battery system, and 300kW of solar panels. This new system was seamlessly integrated into their existing MV network, which includes 10 transformers. Now, only one Eskom connection supplies power to these 10 transformers. The electricity generated at the central point, along with the stored battery power, is distributed throughout the MV network to the transformers on the salt pan, which in turn powers the water pump system.

Loch Maree is extremely satisfied with this solution, which successfully meets their needs, aligns with their goals, and supports their vision.
