- Driehoek
Driehoek farm, situated in the Hex River Valley, is a prominent table grape farm that exports under the brand name “Mooi.” A key motivator behind their transition to green energy was the European import requirements, which mandate that farms cannot rely solely on coal for energy. Additionally, reducing electricity costs was an important factor in their decision.
To ensure reliable energy during the peak grape harvesting season for farming operations, the packhouse, and the cold room, we installed a 100kW inverter with 120kW of solar panels. Driehoek is currently generating electricity from only one of their Eskom connection points, while we were able to virtually consolidate their other five Eskom connections. This solution allows them to feed excess energy back into the grid during off-peak months, efficiently building credit that can be used at all five consolidated points in the summer when their demand is high.
This tailored solution effectively meets both of Driehoek’s objectives, and they are highly satisfied with the results.
