Project
- Vrymansfontein
Located in the beautiful Cape Winelands, Vrymansfontein is one of the oldest farming properties in Paarl, home to one of the largest almond orchards in South Africa. In addition to farming, the property features a charming restaurant, wine cellar and wedding venue.
During the summer harvest season, Vrymansfontein faces a significant energy demand due to the extensive water pumping required. This prompted them to approach 2Zero50 in search of a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective energy solution.
Our tailored solution involved installing a transformer-based inverter to handle the high inrush currents caused by the water pumping systems during the summer months. We also implemented a 1.3km MV line with a centralized generator, integrated into their existing grid-tied inverter system downstream. The solar system, paired with a 1000kWh battery, now successfully meets their energy needs even during their peak season. Our focus in addressing energy cost savings was peak shaving, thereby reducing their fixed fees.
Vrymansfontein is thrilled with the solution, which not only helps reduce energy costs but also aligns with their commitment to sustainability. The farm continues to preserve its beautiful land while integrating sustainable practices wherever possible.
